Are you headed in the right direction?

We all have goals, dreams, or plans for what we'll be doing when we retire. Or do we? Have you and your spouse ever really sat down, just the two of you, over a nice dinner. Or like my brother and sister in law do and talk about their dreams on the front porch sipping their favorite adult beverages. Wherever that peaceful spot may be, we all need to take that quality time to make sure we're heading in the right direction. And most importantly, we are both heading in the same direction.

As a proud father of four amazing kids, I know how easy it can be to get consumed in activities, sports, scouting, sleepovers, birthday parties, holidays, you name it. We are constantly revolving our lives around our children. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, in fact I wouldn't change it for anything. But we still need to carve out that time that's just for the adults! Just the two of you, with no distractions, so you can really express to your spouse what retirement looks like for you.

Maybe retirement isn't in the near future, maybe it's career goals that need to be talked about. Recently, I was offered a position at my day job that would mean several changes for our family. Could I have just taken it without weighing the options with April first, sure, but I might not of had a place to sleep for a few weeks,lol. The point is, we both matter, we both have goals, dreams, or plans that affect each other and affect our family.
